The Margate Bookshop

This modest enterprise stems from a desire to encourage a larger involvement in reading in a time when the activity of buying and browsing books has become more impersonal.

At the heart of The Margate Bookshop lies the desire for more accessible spaces that feel inviting to a wider audience, through which to promote art and, in particular, literature.

An Autumn Edition of The Margate Bookshop

This weekend marks one year since I set up my first pop-up shop within Turner Contemporary and started trading as The Margate Bookshop.

Occasionally I beat myself up about not yet having settled into a permanent arrangement, but these things take time. Doing things at a slower pace means there are an awful lot of valuable lessons I’ve already been picking up long the way, and that I’ve been lucky to team up and collaborate with many, many wonderful people.

Next month I’ll be back in the Foyle rooms of the Turner with the Margate Bookie festival, and I've been browsing some excellent books for this, which I'm excited to share with Margate. The dates are Saturday September 29 and Sunday 30. The Margate Bookshop will be open from 10 each day, and the full festival program can be found here.

See you there!
