CHILDREN OF RADIUM WITH JOE DUNTHORNE | THURSDAY, 22 MAY
Author Joe Dunthorne discusses his new book Children of Radium, a Jewish family memoir of convenient lies, unsayable truths and buried inheritance, in conversation with fellow poet and author Raymond Antrobus
7:00pm-9:00pm Fort Road Bar
In researching the life of his 'jolly' great-grandfather Siegfried, a scientist and Jewish wartime refugee who invented radioactive toothpaste, writer Joe Dunthorne discovered a different story to the one he thought he knew... a sinister mystery that forced him to confront the secrets that lie at the heart of every family. Children of Radium is a wry and surprising book about the half-life of trauma and the slippery nature of truth.
Joe Dunthorne is the author of one of the funniest books of all time, Submarine, as well as The Adulterants, Wild Abandon and poetry collection O Negative. Children of Radium is his first work of non-fiction. He'll be discussing Children of Radium with Raymond Antrobus, an educator and acclaimed poet whose memoir The Quiet Ear is out in August.
Entry is free but please RSVP via Eventbrite to guarantee a space.
