FAIR WITH JEN CALLEJA | THURSDAY, 26 JUNE
Jen Calleja discusses her new book Fair, a playful and satirical study of the creative industries and the 'life-art' of translation
7:00pm-9:00pm Fort Road Bar
Writer, translator and your favourite author's favourite author Jen Calleja is back, this time to talk about her latest book Fair, which takes a sideways look at the role of the literary translator in publishing, at fairness and hard work, and what it means – and whether it's possible – to make a living as an artist. It's a layer-cake of autobiography, fiction, satire and social commentary that raises questions around upbringing, background, support and the ways in which cultural and creative industries can exclude certain people. She will be discussing Fair in conversation with Margate-based writer Ryan J. Smith.
Jen has written a number of other books, most recently the essential Goblinhood, and slightly less recently verse novel Vehicle and poetry pamphlet Dust Sucker. An acclaimed literary translator from German, she is also a writing tutor for the Granta Writers’ Workshop, and a publisher at Praspar Press.
Entry is free but please RSVP via Eventbrite to guarantee a space.
