PITY WITH ANDREW MCMILLAN | FRIDAY, 9 FEBRUARY 2024

Award-winning poet and professor of creative writing Andrew McMillan discusses his hotly anticipated debut novel, Pity

7.00pm-9.00pm Fort Road Bar

Andrew McMillan's poetry has won the Guardian first book and Somerset Maugham awards, as well as the Polari prize for LGBTQ+ literature. Pity, his debut novel, has been highly praised by the likes of Douglas Stuart and Max Porter.

Set in the former mining town of Barnsley in South Yorkshire, Pity tells the story of three generations of the same family. Stripped-back and lyrical, it deals with history, secrets and inherited social trauma, begging the question, who gets to tell what story, about what place, at what time?

Entry is free but please RSVP via Eventbrite to guarantee a space.
