WORLDS OF FEAR AND WONDER WITH MALCOLM GASKILL | FRIDAY, 13 NOVEMBER
Malcolm Gaskill discusses his new book Worlds of Fear and Wonder, a mystic history of our affinity with the supernatural, the magical and the divine.
7:00pm-9:00pm Fort Road Bar
On this most fateful Friday the thirteenth night, gather round as author and historian Malcolm Gaskill lifts the veil on his latest tome, Worlds of Fear and Wonder. An A-V (that is, alchemy to vampires) of supernatural phenomena, the book tunnels back through human history to look at our ancestors' shifting faith in the realms of the spiritual, the divine and the diabolical. From mediums to flying nuns, and from curséd witch trials to bléssed miracles, Gaskill finds fresh insight into the hearts and minds of those for whom these 'unseen forces' were as real and essential as their daily bread.
Malcolm Gaskill is the author of The Ruin of All Witches, Hellish Nell, Witchfinders and The Glass Mountain, and Emeritus Professor of Early Modern History at UEA. He'll be discussing Worlds of Fear and Wonder in conversation with Dan Schreiber, author of The Theory of Everything Else, host of the No Such Thing as a Fish podcast, QI Elf and citizen of Margate.
Tickets are free and available via Eventbrite.
